Sachal Vasandani is recognized for his singular voice, with a tone and unique phrasing that mark him as one of the most compelling voices on the scene today. He has released four records as a leader, Eyes Wide Open (2007), We Move (2009), Hi-Fi (2011), and Slow Motion Miracles (2015), and will release his fifth album in early 2018 on GSI Records.
Sachal has been touring clubs (Blue Note, Ronnie Scott's), theaters (Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall) and festivals (North Sea, Nice Jazz) consistently since 2007. He has led performances on worldwide stages in front of up to 20,000 people, comfortably interacting with large audiences and individual fans from Carnegie Hall in New York to London's Barbican Centre; Australia to Algeria, and classes, workshops, and masterclasses as a featured speaker and performer, both within the United States and around the world. When not leading his own groups, he has performed alongside greats like Wynton Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin, Milton Nascimento, Michael Feinstein, and many more. His original writing and singing on Gerald Clayton’s Life Forum was nominated for a Grammy in 2013.
His most recent album, SHADOW TRAIN, received several favorable reviews and was released fall 2018 on the GSI Records imprint; it features Taylor Eigsti (piano); Nir Felder (guitar); Eric Harland (drums); Reuben Rogers (bass); and Dayna Stephens (woodwinds).
